There are a few issues quite useful when collecting Polish pottery:
  • You can see the reference symbols type GU plus three or four digts. These are Zaklady shape identification numbers upon which each form of produced pottery can be easily found. We have adopted these symbols too - so if you have question it is useful to identify the item this way - instead "a jug" use apropriate symbol.Sometimes you will see also a GD symbols - these are usually for garden/accessoires stuff.

  • Certainly, Polish pottery collectors apply own terms like "pie plate" or "pasta bowl", but the above described identification method is the surest to not to make a mistake when questionning or ordering.
  • In our Shopping area listings you can also compare the technical data about each shape - volume, measures, weight. These data were provided by the Zaklady factory and help a lot in identification and planning the purchases.

  • You must remember that the GU numbers apply only to items from "Zaklady Ceramiczne Boleslawiec" factory - products of other make may not keep the same measures. For example, a "pasta bowl" from Wiza factory is not likely to have the same size as one from Zaklady.

Polish pottery has many forms that can be divided upon the functionality to the following categories:

  • Coffee & Tea: cups, trays, milkpots etc, butter & sugar boxes, eggware
  • Dinnerware: tureens, plates, baking pans, pie pans
  • Table decorations: candleholders, napkins, flowervases
  • Miscelanneous: figurines, clocks, crosses,
